Bethlehem – In a move aimed at enhancing environmental awareness and fostering collaboration in nature conservation, a cooperation agreement was signed today between the “Al Ofoq Youth Development” organization and the Environmental Quality Authority in Bethlehem Governorate, represented by the head of the ministry’s office in the governorate.

The agreement aims to develop joint environmental programs and activities that contribute to the preservation of the Palestinian environment and highlight ecological and natural pathways.

Prior to signing the agreement, a joint meeting was held where various environmental issues of mutual interest were discussed, including:

    • Promoting a culture of environmental sustainability among youth.
    • Developing educational and tourist ecological trails in Bethlehem and surrounding areas.
    • Organizing volunteer and awareness days in natural areas at risk of degradation or environmental damage.
    • Supporting youth initiatives focused on organic farming and green practices.
    • Coordinating workshops and training on climate change, biodiversity, and recycling.

Both parties emphasized the importance of uniting efforts between governmental and community institutions to protect the Palestinian environment, especially in light of the challenges facing natural resources and open areas at risk of depletion and erosion.

Dr. Mohammed Farraja, the executive director, confirmed that this collaboration is part of their vision to empower youth and engage them in issues of sustainable development, indicating that this agreement represents a starting point for quality programs in the upcoming phase.

For his part, Mr. Taleb Hamid, the head of the Environmental Quality office in Bethlehem, expressed his appreciation for the role of Horizon in involving youth in national environmental issues, reaffirming the ministry’s readiness to support meaningful and constructive initiatives.

The first steps of implementing the agreement are set to begin in the coming weeks with the launch of a comprehensive environmental campaign in several areas of Bethlehem Governorate, involving volunteers, ministry representatives, and local institutions.
